Etek Electric Outboard
Motor Project version 2.0 Making a Sneakeasy even
Sneakier
I was going to work on
prop efficiency but I had a SNEAKEASY laying around so I put the etek unit
on it. The combo works well, smooth ride, low wake, and quiiiiiiiet. In
the top photo, the boat trimmed out nicely with the batteries located just
behind the front seat. In the second photo, the boat had just come out
of a turn. The low wake is apparent and there was very little turbulence
from the prop.
The Test Data from
this trial
Weight as tested approximately
1450 lbs.
Full power- 80 amps,
36v, 6.7 mph- 3.86 hp input
Half power- 40 amps,
36v, 5.6 mph-1.93 hp
Slow- 20 amps, 36v,
4.0 mph.-0.96 hp
Battery rating- 75
amps for 108 min.
I took out the smelly
gas tanks which are mounted just behind the rear seat. A simple remote
steering adapter was built for the Etek to fit the existing cable controls.
In the second photo you can see where the batteries are placed. The six
batteries weigh a combined weight of 378 pounds
I've
still got to work on prop efficiency. Stop back by sometime and see how
the experiments go
