I was 21 when I hived my first swarm in Hawaii. In three yearsI was up to five hives. I was sent to school in Texas where I metmy future wife, we have been married 45 years. 44 years ago wemoved to California. I brought my favorite hive with us. The dayafter we arrived, the bee inspector destroyed it saying somethingabout ignorant people smugling bees. In a few years I was up to800 hives while working in rocket engine research anddevelopment. My hobby was taking up all my spare time, so Iretired at 39 as a rocket test leadman to take up beekeeping fulltime. To raise a family of 5 children I had to increase to 2,000hives. I retired at 65 in 1997 and turned everthing over to myson Davidfor a combined operation of 3,500 hives. I found it hard toretire; so you can still find me helping David with the bees.Click on the links below for some pictures.
