Hello fellow Bashfords, Great to see that there are so many of you out there. I am from Brisbane, Australia but originally from Newcastle, Australia. Our family tree is originated William Bashford (USA - 1835 - 1885) and Sarah Sault (Mereweather, NSW - 1845 - 1915). William was born in the USA and returned to staffordshire (Eng) with parents as an infant and then was convicted and transported to Australia .....My husband Vaughan Bashford's parents were Roy Wardle and his wife Millicent Bates Gibson. They had 10 children trevor, Emel, Michael, Vaughan, Carol, Roy, Denise, Naree, Robyn. Talk again soon. Barbara

Hi all! At the time of writing this I'm a student with far too much free time on my hands, so in a bored state I was messing around on the net and stumbled across you lot! I didn't even realise there were so many of us- to David who worked with Sue at Selfridges, she's my auntie- small world huh? Anyway, just thought I'd write a small hello note to kill some time, so now I'll get back to my hectic life of being a lazy uni student!

Since my message in july I've found some more on the mysterious Amy. She was born 19 December 1854 in Westminster her mother was Eliza Spalding who i believe is the Eliza Bashford shown as a laundress on the 1881 uk census at Thornham Magna her father was a George Henry Bashford a Carter they married in 1852 but where was Amy in 1881?????

My mother was a Bashford (Edith Mary, born 1903). I am researching my family tree on both sides of my family. If you look at the family tree of Gavin Bashford (submitted to the Genealogy and Family tree section of the Bashford page, and locate Richard Bashford, born Lingfield 1825, I am descended from his brother William, born Lingfield 1822. William had 7 children, all born in Bletchingley, including William (b. about 1850 - I am still trying to find his exact birthdate),who in turn had at least 3 children: Jesse Alfred and John. They were all living at Outwood in the 1881 Census. Jesse moved to East Grinstead, and had 5 children, of whom my mother was one. I would be delighted to hear from any Bashfords in any way connected to my ancestry. Regards, Brian Warner

My Gt grand mother Amy Bashford married George Batram in Thornham Magna in Suffolk England in 1882.But why O why the mystery. All the male children had the name as a second Christian name and my mother had it as a 3rd Christain name. My grandfather was pretty vague "There may be money in it" me I'm a sceptic. >Who was this Amy Bashford the marriage certificate says her father was George Bashford. The 1991 census seems to say she was born in London. The fiche is quite difficult to read. Why did she come to Suffolk? Was she sent in service to the Henniker family. they had a London home and an estate at Thornham Margna. How's that for a Bashford mystery? Ken Finch

I know some of my family history back four generations to David Harrison Bashford also Thomas (brother or possibly D. H.'s father) where they came from no one seems to know.

Now that I am over the shock of finding this page I would like to find out if anyone knows about a Bashford in England who was knighted - he was a writer. I do not know his first name. I did not expect to find so many Bashford's out there. Where I live the only ones are known relatives. Here in Union NJ, my son Scott is a 5th generation Bashford. My father is William, grandfather was Fred and great grandfather was George. George served as Mayor of Union for a few terms. Fred was one of the first three postal carriers in town. There is even a Bashford Avenue. I am interested in tracing our family tree back further. Any information is welcomed.

I'd love to find out more info on my family. My father's name was Larry Vance Bashford (he passed away 3/10/85) and his dad's name is Vance Howell Bashford (still living). Both grew up in Portsmouth, VA. His dad before that was Edward Dawson Bashford from Raleigh, NC, but after that, I'm stuck. Guess I'll check in periodically for any new tidbits of info! I am looking for anyone with the last name BASSFORD. I figure that it is so close to Bashford. My grandfather was born in England in 1885. His name was Frank Bassford and he came to Ontario, Canada, possibly Sarnia. If anyone could help me, I would appreciate it. My mother really would like to find her family. He had at least two other daughters in the Manitoba area, born either 1912 and 1914 or 1913 and 1915. Or even 1914 and 1916. It is important that we find the family if possible. Hello all you Bashford's. My name is Paul Joseph Bashford.
I was born in Toronto Ontario Canada in 1959.
My sister Susan Edna was born in Hamilton Ontario in 1961.

I am married to Debra Anne Davidson and we have children, Lindsay Kristen (born 1981), Michael Joseph (born in 1982), Gillian Elizabeth (born in 1984), and Ashleigh Kimberley.

I am currently living in Stoney Creek Ontario(a suburb of Hamilton).

My father's name is Beverley and he was born in Rochester Kent England in 1937. He emmigrated to Canada in 1957 and married my mother in 1958. He has lived in the Hamilton area ever since.

I have one aunt,her name is Joy. She is the younger sister of my father and still lives near Rochester.

My grandfathers name was Harry and his wife was Edna. They are both dead now but they lived in Rochester.

If anybody knows them please drop me a line it would be nice to hear more.

Hi I'm Catherine and i have a younger Sister Joanne I live in Aberdeen but the rest of my family stay in a small town called Kinross which is not too far from Edinburgh.
My Father is called John and is one of 7 children to Frank Bashford who moved up to Scotland from somewhere in the London area.
My Grandfather was in the army and i think that was the original reason for him coming up to Scotland.
Anyway i hope this helps someone out and if you want any other detail please email me it would be great to hear from other Bashfords.

Adam is the son of Ron and Rosemary (nee Parnell) Bashford. We have two sons, Aaron and James, both in high school. Would love to hear from other Bashfords.

Just found this and I am in shock. I have lived in the northeast all my life and never met or talked to another Bashford except close family.I am sure going to have fun with this.

This is the first time I've found Bashford's doing an internet search. The furthest I've gotten in my research is William and Phoebe Bashford. They lived in New York State. They had three sons, James, Coles, and Levi. Coles and Levi were politically active in Territorial Arizona. Coles was also a governor of Wisconsin.

Levi married Helen Louise Allen and had one son, Coles Allen Bashford. After Helen died Levi married Mary Elizabeth Foster. They had no children. Coles Allen Bashford married Henrietta Parker in Prescott, AZ.
They had four children. Harold Levi, Carrie Laine, Katherine, and Edith. Edith died young. Katherine never married, but became famous as a landscape architect. Carrie changed her name to Louise and married John Marvin York and had one son. Harold married Ruby Metcalf and had two daughters, Elizabeth and Edith. After Ruby died, he married Una Efner and had one daughter, Frances. I am one of Fran's daughters.

Prior to William and Phoebe, I have mention of a William Bashford in the 1790 and 1800 census and also a William Bashford and a Thomas Bashford in the Revolution.

Ignore the pickles bit of the e-mail, I'm the only one who checks the mail at present and I'll get round to sorting a proper address shortly. I haven't got much idea about my ancestry really. I come from near Worthing, West Sussex but am now working in London for a firm of Independent financial advisers (John Pickles & Partners) As far as my father has always said - our family may originate from a place called Basford - now a suburb of Nottingham. Anyway I'm just going to check the page out and may be back for a more interesting message!!

My great-grandfather was the Bashford that Doug mentioned who joined the Royal British Navy at age 12. His name was George and was born in the 1830's. He was discharged in 1860 and moved to the United States to settle in Nauvoo, IL. I don't know where he was born (I assume somewhere in England.) I would appreciate any information anyone in England may have about George Bashford or his family. Does the British Navy keep records from the 1800's? If so, will they allow research of their records?

"Alf" was Deputy Mayor of Richmond, London, England and died in 1929. In his obituary is listed three sisters, his nieces, Misses Alice, Annie and Nellie. "Alf" was born in Limpsfield, Surrey but of Kentish ancestry. His father was Robert and mother Elizabeth. His grandparents Benjamin and Sarah - all of Limpsfield.

I beleive that the name Bashford is a corruption of Beresford. The name Beresford when spoken with an Irish accent becomes phonetically Barshford. From this it is a very short hop to Bashford. My grandfather was an Irish Beresford and I have his signet ring bearing the head of a dragon with a spear through its neck. I hope this is helpful in some way. If you wish to know anything of the history of the Beresfords I have a family prayer book dated 1757 which lists in some detail the family tree. Nick Wilson

Just to add to the Bashford info: I was born 1960 in Ellesmere Port, South Wirral, England. My Father John Thomas Bashford was Born in County Meath, Ireland in 1927 and won an All Ireland medal in Gaelic Football for Meath in 1949. I've never met another Bashford apart from my relatives.

This coat, with the bear blazoned salient, is assigned to BERESFORD in
a MS c.1520.  Papworth also makes this attribution, mentioning
specifically BERESFORD of Kent and BERESFORD of Bentley in Derbyshire.

Fairbairn gives this crest, including the tinctures, for BERESFORD of
Kent and BERESFORD of Bentley in Derbyshire, and also for Baron

FYI: I am a direct descendant of George Henry Bashford of Maidstone, England. I have known this for many years (although I did not know he was from maidstone). My father was Bernard Dean Bashford and his father was Walter Bashford, grandson of George Henry. Does anyone know of more direct ancestors to George Henry? How far back can we go?

HOLY COW!!! Did not know there were so many Bashfords!! I wish I knew more about my history as well. Here is a brief account of who I am. I am the eldest of three boys, Myself, Marty and John. I am one of two adopted sons, (Marty is the other) of Allan Lee Bashford, son of John Bashford of Minneapolis, St. Paul MN. William Alfred Bashford, born Limpsfield, Surrey, died Oct. 12, 1929 in Richmond. He was a councillor in Richmond and his obituary takes up a full page of "The herald".

My mother's mother was Annie Bashford, born Bombay 1876; her father was Thomas Boyle St. John Bashford, born London 1850; HIS father was George James St John Bashford, born Dublin c. 1817; and HIS father was Thomas George St. John Bashford, probably born somewhere in Ireland abt. 1786. That's as far as I've got, but I'd love to trace relations, however distant. I heard someone went to USA early in 1800's and founded the Bashford branch there; a great-granddaughter of George's certainly went to Australia. Anyone out there ?

I'm 83, married and living in Tacoma, WA, two children, now grown, two grandchildren, and would like to learn more about the family history. My father was James Osgood Bashford, a newspaper photographer who took the famous photos of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge on the day the first bridge fell down. The bridge became known as 'Galloping Gertie'. My children are Juliann Bell Beales and James E. Bell. I will research my records for other information and pass it along.
