What is economics?

I extracted this definition from the Albertson College course-major description from: http://www.acofi.edu/catalog/factsht/econ.htm
I added the bold characters for emphasis: who are economists?
Is it true that, "Blaming the economy on economists is like blaming the weather on weathermen?"

Economics

WHY STUDY ECONOMICS?

Economics is a social science concerned chiefly with how society employs its limited resources to produce goods and services for present and future consumption. As a social science it studies the interactions of people, in particular their interactions as they buy and sell. At the same time, however, Economics is study of decision making . The rules for decision making found in Economics can be transferred to many areas, such as government, business, and law.

Career Opportunities

An undergraduate degree in economics can provide entre into a wide range of careers, most of which, however, require graduate level degrees. Because the study of economics equips the student with technical decision-making skills, students with economics degrees usually seek further study in masters or doctorate level programs in business and finance or in doctorate programs in demographics, public policy, law, and economics. For these students employment in business, industry, research organizations, government and education becomes readily available.
