Robert Lafayette Cox was born January 10, 1851 to John Wilkerson Cox and Caroline Amelia Hood. After the death of his first wife, Clemmie Thomas Gray, he married Annie Elizabeth Edwards in Randolph, Fannin County, Texas on November 15, 1888. To this marriage seven children were born:

• Oba James Cox born November 3, 1889 in Oklahoma and died April 29, 1987 in California.
• Hugh Ellis Cox born April 19, 1891in Oklahoma.
• Grady Lafayette Cox born August 15, 1893 and died October 27, 1918 in Wheeler, Texas.
• Amy Amelia Cox was born September 29, 1896 in Altus, Jackson County, Oklahoma and died September 26, 1953 in Fresno, Fresno County, California.
• Chesley Jennings Cox was born September 17, 1899.
• Rufus Francis Cox born June 13, 1901and died June 15, 1982.
• Annie May Cox born June 18, 1903 in Oklahoma and died July 20, 1976.

Annie Elizabeth died in Mountain Park, Kiowa County, Oklahoma June 18, 1903. Robert Lafayette Cox died March 12, 1917 in Oklahoma. He is buried in the Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler, Texas.
