Peter Reed was born in Pennsylvania on February 26, 1788. At this time his mother is unknown; his father was Conrad Reed. He married Wilhelmina Niepman in Madison, Montgomery County, Ohio on March 22, 1822. To this union five children were born:

• Abraham N. Reed was born in Madison, Montgomery Co., Ohio on September 27, 1823 and died June 14, 1855 in Montgomery Co., Ohio. He is buried in the Ehrstine Cemetery in Montgomery Co., Ohio.
• John N. Reed was born about 1825 in Montgomery County, Ohio.
• Henry N. Reed was born August 27, 1827 in Montgomery County. Ohio and died August 6, 1899. He is buried in Forney Cemetery in Jefferson, Montgomery Co., Ohio.
• Michael N. Reed was born December 18, 1829 in Montgomery County. Ohio.
• Benjamin N. Reed was born about 1832 in Montgomery County, Ohio.

Peter Reed died in Montgomery County, Ohio on May 11, 1874. Wilhelmina Niepman Reed died in Montgomery Co., on November 18, 1875; she is buried next to Peter in Fort McKinley Cemetery in Montgomery County. At the time of Wilhelmina's death, Benjamin and his children were living with her at "the old homestead".
