Luigi Barbano was born March 8, 1857(per death certificate) to Pietro Elia Barbano and Antonia Ochinero in Maschito, Potenza, Italy. He and Anna Maria Manduano (Mantuano) were married November 2, 1880 in Maschito, Potenza, Italy. To this union nine children were born:

• Maria (Mary) Barbano was born August 15, 1881 in Maschito, Potenza, Italy. She was married to Pasquale (Pat) Faretta December 17, 1899. Mary died in November 22, 1957 in Fresno, Fresno Co., California. Pat died November 23, 1947.
• Antonia (Dona) Barbano was born September 22, 1882 in Maschito, Potenza, Italy. Dona was married to Pete Faretta August 17, 1902. She died August 25, 1960 in Fresno, California.
• Elizabeth (Betta) Barbano was born in Maschito, Potenza, Italy on December 11, 1885 and died in Fresno, California on July 20, 1966. She was married to Joe Jura April 28, 1907.
• Pietro Elia (Pete) Barbano was born June 19, 1988 in Maschito, Potenza, Italy. He died April  8, 1962. His first marriage was to Josephine Parisi on June 13, 1920. His second marriage was to Rosa Gentile, maiden name Tringola on November 2, 1929.
• Filomina (Minnie) Barbano was born January 9, 1891 in Maschito, Potenza, Italy and died in Fresno, California on September 29, 1970. She married Felix Paladino on June 5, 1910.
• Giuseppi (Joseph) Barbano was born February 2, 1894 in Maschito, Potenza, Italy and died July 26, 1979 in Fresno, California. He married Louise Volpa October 19, 1930.
• Andrew (Henry) Barbano was born May 22, 1897 in Maschito, Potenza, Italy and died April 9, 1971 in Fresno, California. He married Mary San Filippo February 8, 1945. Henry's death certificate lists his date of birth as 1898 but this is incorrect. Luigi's notes and passport records show that he was born in 1897. Based on this information and the date of Anna's birth, I have changed my records for his year of birth.
• Incoronata (Anna) Barbano was born December 16, 1898 in Melfi, Potenza, Italy. She married Nicola DeFendis June 6, 1920. Annie died June 17, 1998 at the age of 99.
• Saletta (Sally)  Barbano was born December 20, 1900 in Melfi, Italy and died February 21, 1989 in Fresno, California. She married Joseph Volpa January 26, 1930.

Luigi Barbano and his nine children emigrated to the USA from Italy in the very early 1900's.  Luigi and his seven youngest children emigrated after the death of  his wife, Anna Maria, in 1905. According to handwritten notes, they  left Melfi, Potenza, Italy on the "Antonia Lupese".  The date on these notes is October 10, 1905. I do not know if this is the date the ship departed from Italy or if it is the date of arrival at Ellis Island.
Luigi's mother, Antonia Ochinero Barbano, may have accompanied two of her sisters and Luigi's oldest daughters, Maria and Antonia sometime between between 1898 and 1900.  Antonio Ochinero Barbano died August 10, 1924 and is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Fresno, California.  Luigi Barbano died September 14, 1923 in Fresno, Fresno County, California. He and eight of his children are buried at  Holy Cross Cemetery in Fresno, California. His daughter, Elizabeth Jura, is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Fresno. Luigi was married a second time, but at this time the second wife is unknown to me.
