Leonard DeFendis, son of Nicola DeFendis and Antonia Papagni, was born in Bisceglie, Apulia, Bari, Italy in 1861. On February 28, 1890 he married Angelina Papagni in Bisceglie, Apulia, Italy. To this union there were four children born (there may have been others):

• Nicola DeFendis born November 29, 1890 in Bisceglie, Apulia, Bari, Italy and died in Fresno, Fresno Co., California July 26, 1966.
• Frank DeFendis was born after 1890 in Bisceglie, Apulia, Italy and died in Argentina.
• Mary DeFendis was born August 19, 1900 in Bisceglie, Apulia, Italy and died in Fresno, Fresno Co., California June 17, 1975.
• Jack DeFendis born September 3, 1902 in Bisceglie, Apulia, Italy and died in Fresno, Fresno Co., California January 30, 1990.

Leonard DeFendis died in Italy in 1934 and his wife Angelina Papagni DeFendis died in Italy in 1916.
