Swetnam
George Henry Swetnam was born July 10, 1853 to George
Swetnam and Caroline Coleman Christian. George Henry married Jane (Jennie)
Reed in Randolph County, Missouri on December 18, 1879. According to Moberly
newspaper, they were married at the residence of Guss Miller, near Higbee
by Rev. S. Y. Pitts; attendants were Miss Eva Christian and Mr. John Vaughn.
To this union five children were born:
- Annie James Swetnam born May 10, 1881 in Randolph County,
Missouri and died in Jacksboro, Jack County, Texas March 5, 1971
- Lou C. Swetnam was born February 26, 1882 in Jack County,
Texas and died February 12, 1945 in New Liberty, Beckham County, Oklahoma.
- Lorella Swetnam was born February 21, 1885 in Jack County,
Texas and died November 4, 1964 in Knox City, Knox County, Texas.
- Jesse Swetnam born April 26, 1886 in Jack County,
Texas and died December 8, 1974 in Wheeler, Wheeler County, Texas.
- Harry Swetnam born January 12, 1889 in Vineyard, Jack
County, Texas and died May 26, 1971 in Lorenzo, Crosby County, Texas..
After the death of Jennie Reed in Jack County, Texas on
February 28,1889, George Henry married Lucindy Alice Duvall Gafford, a
widow with two sons, in Jacksboro on August 28. 1890. To this union five
children were born:
- I. K. Swetnam born July 1, 1891 in Vineyard, Jack County,
Texas and died December 29, 1984 in Graham, Young County, Texas.
- George Rit Swetnam born June 25, 1896 in Vineyard, Jack
Co., Texas and died July 28, 1992 in Bryson, Jack Co., Texas
- Lewis Hobson Swetnam born June 9, 1898 in Jack Co., Texas
and died September 7, 1952 in El Paso, El Paso Co., Texas.
- Trecie Swetnam born June 25, 1901 in Vineyard, Jack County,
Texas.
- Leemon Parker Swetnam born September 14, 1904 in Vineyard,
Jack Co., Texas and died December 20, 1989 in Jacksboro, Jack Co., Texas.
George Henry died in Sebree, Jack County, Texas March
10, 1907. At the time of his death, all ten children survived him. He is
buried next to his first wife, Jennie Reed, in Kilby Cemetery in Vineyard,
Jack County, Texas. His sister Caroline Virginia Swetnam Ragsdale is also
buried in Kibly Cemetery. Lucindy Alice Duvall Gafford died February 17,
1946 and is buried in Jacksboro, Jack Co., Texas.
