Anyone paying attention to recent advertising has probably noticed strange-looking text like this:
http://www.somebusiness.com.This text is a Uniform Resource Locator commonly referred to as a URL in "geek-speak." In plain English, this is known as a "Web Address." Web addresses commonly seen and heard in advertising are often difficult to remember when one sits down to "surf the net." Fortunately, one great aspect of the Internet is that it enables you to seek and find what you want, even though you may not know the actual Web address. You can easily find Web sites dedicated to specific topics by using a search engine. Some popular search engines are Yahoo, Hot Bot, Infoseek, Lycos, Alta Vista, and Web Crawler. To do a basic search for a broad subject, simply visit one of the search engines above and type in the name of whatever topic you're interested in, such as "awesome cars" or "zucchini." If you enter only one word and click on the "search" or "find" button on your favorite search engine, chances are that you will get hundreds or thousands of matches. Fortunately, you can narrow your search by specifying words to include or exclude by using commands such as AND or NOT. These specific operations vary by search engine. So, follow the instructions provided on each search engine's page.
