CEBU CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES began in January of 2005 at Virgin Beach Resort.
Roy and Cathay Ross were in the Philippines looking for a place to minister. They made a
one year committment and stayed in one of the cottages at VBR. They began a worship
and priase service on Sunday mornings at the Club House near the beach at VBR. On
my trip to Cebu in February, we began a Bible Study on Wednesday night at the Guard
House at the main gate at VBR. We showed the Jesus Film Project in Visayan and Pastor
Sam Cedro of the Medellin Baptist Church led the Bible Studies. We had a children's and
youth rally that attracted more than 300 young people. We also had our first used clothes
give away and our first food give away for the very poor people near the resort.
Roy and Cathay Ross ministry grew till April, 2005 when we had a Vacation Bible School for
the children, more than 150 children/adults were involved. They left VBR in June of 2005
and were not able to fulfill their one year committment.
By September of 2005, on my trip to Cebu, we called Pastor Jacinto Layos of San Remigio Baptist Church and we expanded our childrens and youth rallies, food give aways and clothing give aways. Pastor Jay began home Bible Studies and currently has 6 with more than 80 families involved.
On my February 2006 trip to Cebu, we had our first Baptism of 6 converts. There are another 6 baptized Christians from the Daanbantayan Baptist Church who have joined our fellowship and at least 6 more candidates for baptism by October 2006. We have added seminars for livelyhood projects.
The Tulare First Baptist Church is sending a short term mission team of 9 members in October, 2006 to build a church on a near by property and to help with the ministry there.
I believe God has called us to be a "light" and to be "salt". I could not ignore the needs of the people around Virgin Beach Resort. God has given me a vision for using part of VBR for a Christian Bible Camp for the youth of Cebu. Christian camping has impacted my life and I feel that God is calling me to use VBR for this purpose. Please pray with me that God's will be done at VBR and that souls will be saved for His Kingdom.
